I am not a professional chef. I don't have a cooking show on TV and I don't claim to know everything under the sun about baking bread. I am simply a 40-something year old woman who learned to cook from scratch as a child and have done so regularly throughout life.

I found the book to have some helpful simple recipes for the newby to bread baking and making other things from scratch. I imagine it would not appeal to experienced bakers, but for me, it was a good find. There are not a lot of recipes, just several good basic ones. White bread, wheat bread, English Muffins, Brownies, etc. I look forward to experimenting with the suggestions. I also like that the author explains how the amount of yeast in the recipe can be altered based on how much time you have. I have not seen that kind of information before.

There ate a lot of cooking tips in the back substitutes for lacking ingredient s and measurements. Simple recipients that are awesome when u don't want to run to the store.
I haven't tried any of these recipes yet but can tell there are going to be some good ones in the book. I like the variations explained by the author. I am seventy two years old and there are some things in this book I didn't know so I am very glad I got it.
I have been baking bread for years but you can always learn something new. This cookbook gave me new information and ways to make my bread better. Love the recipes and a fresh insight. If you are just learning to bake or an experienced baker, this is a must for everyone.
It's a good book to read before, let's say getting ready for holiday baking or a big project. It's a review of things most people know, but don't store in that knowledge base.
Good recipes.
Great little how to book for baking. I tried the English muffin recipe first, and had never made them before. The instructions were sufficient to inspire confidence and prevent disaster. I have been wanting to eliminate as many processed foods as possible from my family's diet, but also don't have oodles of time to cook all day. These recipes fit into my plan.
I downloaded this book for some alternate recipes for beginning bread-making. I have used some of the bigger well known cookbooks, but just wanted something different. This proved to be a great alternative. The recipes were much easier and less time consuming then the others I used. A easy read.
I loved the verve shown by author Kathy Burns-Millyard, but I found her recipe directions a bit confusing for some of the recipes. The recipe shown here is posted exactly as written in the cookbook. Here is an example of confusing recipe

Easy English Muffins

1/2 cup powdered milk
1 Tbsp. Sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. Grease or Butter
1 cup warm Water

Mix the above ingredients until the butter melts.
Photo of English Muffins (I could not show the photo but it is between the ingredients listed)
1 envelope or 2 1/4 tsp. dry yeast
1/8 tsp. sugar
1/3 cup Warm water

Mix until the yeast dissolves and foams.

Combine the ingredients from step one and two, then stir in two cups flour.

You will have a thick batter. Let this rise for about one hour or until double in size.

Heat a skillet on medium. I use cast iron but any heavy skillet should suffice. Dust the skillet lightly with cornmeal. Do not add grease, butter or oil.

Drop the batter by small scoops into the skillet as if you're making pancakes.

NOTE I omitted the remaining recipe directions given in the cookbook.

As I wrote I love the author's verve and love of baking. I wish her writing and editing of the cookbook was a bit clearer.

Recommend with caveats given.
